A Balanced Approach is a team of highly trained professionals with over 25 years of combined experience with children on the Autism Spectrum. To achieve this goal, we use principles of Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) to create individualized programs to meet the specific needs of each child. We offer Home-Based services in the Tri-City.

Have you ever had a day completely derailed by a small change in plans?

For many children with autism, routines and predictability help make the world feel more understandable. When plans change unexpectedly, the challenge may not be the change itself—it may be the uncertainty that comes with it.

Understanding what might be happening beneath the surface can help us respond with empathy while still supporting important skills like flexibility and coping with change.

💡 Try previewing changes when possible, using visual supports, and helping your child understand what happens next.

What’s one change that tends to be particularly difficult for your child?

When we say “no,” our goal isn’t to eliminate disappointment.

Children are allowed to feel frustrated, disappointed, or upset when they don’t get what they want.

The skill we’re teaching isn’t “never feel upset.”

The skill is learning that feelings can be acknowledged while limits stay in place.

💡 “I know that’s disappointing.”
💡 “I hear that you’re upset.”
💡 “The answer is still no.”

Empathy and boundaries can work together.
