This is one of my most frequently asked questions and honestly, one of the hardest questions to answer.

Our bodies are perfectly designed, down to the cellular level, to carry out specific functions that work together to maintain homeostasis. As a result, whenever we catch a cold or break a bone, our body demonstrates its self-healing and self-regulating processes by getting better on its own.

If we have abnormalities in the structure of our body, the function will always be affected. Just as a car cannot drive properly with its wheels out of alignment, the body will not function optimally if the structure lacks motion and pliability. Susceptibility to injury, disease and pain are the resultant effects of a breakdown in the structure of the body.

Osteopathic Manual Practitioners do not see themselves as healers, but instead as facilitators of health. Our goal is to adjust the structure of the body to affect the function of its tissues, so that it may be in the best position to self-heal and self-regulate.

I was introduced to the practice of osteopathy after dealing with years of occupational back pain and no relief from any other modalities. I only started to see results when I found an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner who searched for the root cause of my problems, rather than just treating my symptoms. I knew almost immediately that this was the career path I had been searching for.

I am a graduate of the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy and a member of the Ontario Osteopathic Association. Prior to my osteopathic education, I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Wilfrid Laurier University. My educational background has allowed me to combine my skills in logic and reasoning with an in-depth knowledge of functional anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, assessment and mechanical principles.

My approach to treatment is always unique to my patient’s specific needs and lifestyle. Through gentle adjustment of the body, I will work to stabilize the structure, balance the body and remove obstructions that restrict the flow of nerves, arteries, veins and lymphatics. Only when the body is balanced, and structures are adjusted to normal, can we begin to facilitate the self-healing, self-regulating mechanisms of the body.
