On this day in 1985, Madonna played her first Canadian show at Toronto’s iconic Maple Leaf Gardens during The Virgin Tour.
The sold-out concert brought 16,000 fans to their feet with a setlist packed with classics, including “Holiday,” “Into the Groove,” and “Material Girl”. Opening the tour? None other than Beastie Boys!
Before taking the stage, Madonna was presented with a Canadian Quadruple Platinum award for shipments of over 400,000 copies of 'Like a Virgin' in Canada 💿🔥 The album later went Diamond in Canada, making it one of only a select few albums in the country to hit 1 million+ shipments.
