Cowichan is home to one of the largest wine regions in British Columbia and has the longest history of winemaking with grapes on Vancouver Island. The first commercial winery opened in Cowichan in 1992, but some of the local homesteads were experimenting with wine back in the 1800’s. When you dig beneath the vines to the unique terroir and rich history of our land it quickly makes sense. A mix of ancient volcanic activity, salt, and glaciers in the Cowichan region has led to some of the best soil for growing our chosen grape varieties.
