UVIC Observatory
The UVIC Observatory is home to a 0.8 meter telescope, the largest telescope on any Canadian University campus! Every Wednesday Night throughout the academic year (September to April, with the exception of December 6th to January 10th for winter holidays), we host a FREE open house on the 5th floor of the Bob Wright Centre. Hi folks! We’ve had to take the 0.8m telescope offline until early July to prepare for some upgrades. What this means is that you’ll still be able to look AT the telescope, but not THROUGH it until the upgrades are complete.
Regular Open House activities continue on Wednesday evenings (except July 1)
(Due to the impending solstice it’s too bright to see anything before 10:30 pm anyway 😅)

And as Tyler looked into Commander Chris Hadfields eyes, he was overcome with worry.
“How do I know you’ll be safe at the International Space Station?!”
Chris Hadfield looked back at Tyler with a knowing smile;
“I’ve been going to UVic’s Open House nights, I know what i’m doing.”
And with that, he boarded his spaceship, ready to make Canada (and Tyler) proud.

UVic Observatory’s DFM telescope is so popular, it got some visitors from across the pond!
