Collection Spotlight: Spiraea douglasii (Hardhack)
One of BC’s most striking summer wildflowers is now in bloom. Spiraea douglasii, commonly known as hardhack, is a native shrub found in wetlands, along streambanks and at the edges of lakes throughout much of the province.
Its vibrant pink flower spikes provide an important food source for bees and other pollinators, while dense stands of hardhack help stabilize soils and create habitat for wildlife.
Have you spotted hardhack in bloom this season?
