A landmark announcement in The Lancet marks an important shift in women’s health: Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS) is being renamed Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS).

This new name more accurately reflects what clinicians and patients have long understood—this condition is far more than an ovarian disorder.

PMOS involves a complex interplay of:

✨ Hormonal imbalance
✨ Insulin resistance
✨ Metabolic dysfunction
✨ Inflammation
✨ Ovulatory and fertility challenges
✨ Increased cardiovascular risk

For years, the term PCOS created confusion, leading many women to believe they needed ovarian cysts to have the condition. In reality, the underlying drivers often include disturbances in blood sugar regulation, androgen excess, thyroid dysfunction, stress physiology, gut health, and chronic inflammation.

The new term, PMOS, acknowledges that this is a whole-body endocrine and metabolic condition requiring a comprehensive treatment approach.

At NatCan, our naturopathic doctors take a root-cause approach to PMOS by identifying and addressing the factors contributing to hormonal and metabolic imbalance. Care may include:

🌿 Personalized nutrition and lifestyle strategies
🌿 Insulin resistance and blood sugar optimization
🌿 Weight management support
🌿 Targeted supplementation
🌿 Thyroid and adrenal assessment
🌿 Gut health and inflammation management
🌿 Fertility and menstrual cycle support

Whether you are struggling with irregular cycles, acne, hair loss, unwanted hair growth, difficulty losing weight, or fertility concerns, effective treatment begins with understanding the interconnected systems involved.

The renaming of PCOS to PMOS is more than a change in terminology—it is a recognition that women deserve to be seen, heard, and treated more accurately and more comprehensively.

If you have been told your symptoms are “just part of PCOS,” know that there are evidence-informed strategies to address the root causes and help restore hormonal balance.

💛 PMOS is not just about the ovaries. It is about the health of the entire endocrine and metabolic system.

What you see: determined, resilient, relentless. 💪🏽

What you don’t see: adapting to constant change, always learning, and navigating the challenges that come with living and practicing evidence-based healthcare every day.

As a proud mom of two young men and Naturopathic Doctor, I don’t just teach others about health and wellness — I’m always trying to embody it in mind, body, and spirit for both my present and future self.

Is it easy? Not even close!

Health isn’t a one-time or short-term decision. It’s a daily practice that requires renewed motivation, time, effort, and knowledge.

At NatCan Clinics in Vaughan and Woodbridge, this same philosophy guides how we care for our patients — personalized, evidence-based care designed to help you build sustainable health for the long term.

My health journey certainly hasn’t been straightforward and maybe yours isn’t either.

It just has to start … and I’m here to help.

PSA: Your body always gives you feedback—if you know how to listen.

If you follow me, you saw I just returned from a blissful vacation—enjoying all the experiences and all the foods. 🌴

What you may not know is that I have IgG food sensitivities (not IgE allergies), so in daily life I’m intentional about avoiding foods that don’t support my physiology.

On vacation, I chose to relax those boundaries. In an effort to increase my morning protein intake, I had three eggs every day for five consecutive days.

By day six, I developed a full-body rash.

Could there be other explanations? Possibly. But this exact pattern has happened before—so for me, the connection was clear.

Once I returned home, resumed my usual egg-free, whole-food routine, and supported my system, my skin completely normalized within 10 days.

This experience was a powerful reminder of why individualized nutrition matters. What is nourishing for one person can be inflammatory for another. I’m grateful I’ve invested in understanding my own biochemistry—and that my body knows how to restore balance when supported appropriately.

I’m also grateful for naturopathic medicine and functional approaches that focus on identifying root causes and creating practical, personalized solutions—for myself and for my patients.

If you’re curious about what’s right for your body, let me know. I’m happy to share more.
