Happy Pink Shirt Day!

Today we wear pink in support of a movement rooted in kindness, inclusion, and standing up against bullying. What started as a simple act of solidarity by two students in Canada has grown into a powerful reminder that even small actions can spark meaningful change.

By choosing compassion and respect, we help create communities where everyone feels safe, valued, and supported. 💗

Invisible Disabilities Awareness Week (October 19–25) is a national-level initiative in Canada dedicated to shining a spotlight on disabilities that aren’t immediately visible — such as chronic pain, neurological conditions, mental-health challenges or other impairments that people may not “see.”

The hope is to build awareness, reduce stigma, promote understanding, and encourage inclusive practices — especially in workplaces, schools and the community. 🌎👩🏻‍🤝‍👩🏽

This week is an opportunity for organizations, educators, employers and individuals to pause, ask how our systems treat “invisible” conditions and commit to making our spaces more accessible, understanding and supportive. ☺️🍎

Resources:
- Disability Alliance BC (DABC)—Offers advocacy, one-on-one assistance with disability benefits applications (including PWD designation) and cross-disability supports in BC. Useful for people with invisible conditions who may need help navigating the system.

- Vancouver Disability Solutions Network (VDSN)—A network of 200+ organizations in Vancouver region that work together to identify and address service-barriers for people with disabilities (including invisible ones). Good for local community collaboration, advocacy and finding groups.

- OneAbility — Focused on inclusive physical activity and recognizing that invisible barriers exist (i.e., people may have disabilities that aren’t obvious). Good for awareness: that inclusion isn’t just about mobility-aids but all kinds of barriers.

- Family Support Institute of BC / Find Support BC—A searchable directory/database of disability-related services in BC (including for families, transitions, etc.). Ideal for individuals to locate specific supports in their region.

- Invisible Disabilities Association (IDA) – Although U.S.-based, they provide global resources and discussion around invisible disabilities: what they are, how they affect lives, and how to advocate.
