Last week I was onsite at a past project for a photoshoot. As Design Director .studio I am conscious that our studio is known for it's colourful styles. As the art director for the photoshoot I set up the goals for pre and post production, as well as the shoot list based upon the story we would like to tell about the project.

Not only do I get showcase a custom kitchen, I can also set up the merchandising of scene and feature local artists and their work. It just needs to tie into our colour story that has taken me time to sketch out and plan for.

In the case of this project you can see a local BC potter Matthew Freed's Yaletown Red pottery series.

I couldn't have asked for a more perfect glaze and pattern to work with our photoshoot.

One of the most valuable courses I ever took at art school was a colour theory course. This type of course was founded over 100 years ago in the Bauhaus School.

It allows me to understand the colour relationships that our principal designer is wanting to achieve. So I can compliment it with the additional parts of a project I make selections for.

It also allows me to make colour selections for an interior space that compliment a clients existing art collection. As well as offer suggestions for framing and hanging.

For this project the client wanted a pop of colour. So we created complimentary finishes to work with a venetian red range, including a bold floor with an intense teal geometric pattern.
