At this year’s Leadership Gathering, participants spoke about the growing impact of public perception, misinformation, and backlash on housing and social service responses across communities.
While data and evidence remain critical, participants emphasized that it alone does not shift perception. Storytelling, and firsthand accounts of lived experience, are an essential part of building public understanding and empathy, and in turn, impacting policy, funding, community support, and the ability to move solutions forward.
The conversations highlighted the importance of telling more authentic and accessible stories that reflect the realities people are navigating and help build a deeper understanding of complex social challenges.
As these issues become increasingly politicized, participants stressed the need for stronger collaboration across sectors to counter misinformation, build trust, and create space for more informed public conversations.

At this year’s Leadership Gathering, participants spoke about the challenges created by fragmented systems and the importance of stronger collaboration across sectors.
Housing, health, justice, and social services are often designed separately, even though people experience them together. When systems operate in silos, gaps emerge, coordination becomes harder, and people are too often left cycling through crisis.
These conversations reinforced the importance of continuing to work alongside partners, communities, and sectors to better understand how complex challenges intersect and how responses can better reflect those realities.

We’re excited to share that Connective’s first program in Victoria, Bridge Street Pathways Shelter, is now operational!
In partnership with BC Housing and the City of Victoria - Local Government, this 34-bed, referral-only shelter will support people experiencing homelessness in the community.
While this is Connective’s first program in Victoria, we bring more than 30 years of experience across Vancouver Island, including operating over 450 units of transitional, supportive, and affordable housing. Bridge Street Pathways builds on this experience through an innovative shelter model designed to support people transitioning toward stable housing, and is led by a Senior Manager with deep experience in shelter operations and the local community.
Bridge Street Pathways is not a drop-in shelter. Outreach teams will refer people sheltering outdoors who are ready to transition toward housing.
Residents will have access to daily meals, private washrooms and showers, laundry, personal storage, and dedicated spaces for support services. Our team will provide 24/7 onsite support, including case management, life skills development, and connections to health and community services.

Happy National Volunteer Week!
This year’s theme, Ignite Volunteerism, is all about sparking connection, strengthening communities, and recognizing the impact of acts of service.
At Connective, we see that impact every day through the time, care, and dedication our volunteers bring. Our volunteers are a vital part of our work, supporting individuals through housing, employment, and life challenges, and contributing to restorative justice initiatives that promote safety and healing. Their involvement helps reconnect people to support, opportunity, and each other in meaningful ways.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who shares their time and energy with us. Your commitment helps build stronger, more connected, and more inclusive communities.
