These effects are most profoundly felt by colonised or formerly colonised societies ranging from the threat of extinction to loss of pride and awareness about local literary traditions. Project Kavi is the brainchild of language lovers at UBC, who care deeply about language and identify loss, brought on by colonial contexts. Kavi is a forum at UBC that celebrates and provide visibility to languages that have or continue to face colonial oppression across the world, connect and share the experiences of speakers of these languages. Kavi is an informative forum for linguistic diversity with a special focus on languages with a colonial past/present.
