Wondering why Indy cars all weave down low on the straightaways at the Indy 500, when you’d think that a straight line would be faster? It’s because the turbulence caused by the car running close to the wall “slows” them, so they use all the track through the corners, and then let the car “run free” aerodynamically on the straights. Of course, every driver does that - which gives the pack that snakelike look - and tries to stay in line to use the draft off the car in front.
