May 11th 2025 VAM ViolaFest Event

Bringing all ages from 5-85 years old together with almost 70 participants was an amazing feat.

Thank you to all who attended and participated.

We were thrilled to have you at Viola Fest! It was an inspiring day filled with music, learning, and connection—featuring masterclasses, body awareness workshops, mini masterclasses, improvisation, luthier workshop and looping sessions, and a wonderful faculty concert. Most of all, it was a joy to see violists of all ages and backgrounds coming together to celebrate our shared passion.

Your support helps us continue to create meaningful opportunities like this for violists across Canada. We look forward to seeing you at future events and continuing to build this vibrant community together.

Born in France, Axelle Tahiri grew up in a household where music wasn’t a primary focus, but her passion for music emerged early, leading her to a career as a violist. Initially pursuing scientific studies, her love for music ultimately redirected her path.

Axelle earned her master’s degree in performance at the Conservatoire National de Musique et de Danse in Lyon under Françoise Gneri. She then completed a D.E.P.A in Performance at the University of Montreal, where she is now pursuing a doctoral degree under the guidance of Jutta Puchhammer-Sédillot. Throughout her studies, she has worked with renowned violists, including Tatiana Mazurenko, Garth Knox, Hartmut Rohde, and Yura Lee.

Since 2018, Axelle has performed as a section violist with several distinguished orchestras, including the Auditorium-Orchestre National de Lyon, where she participated in concerts over three seasons, exploring diverse repertoire and captivating audiences. She also served as a section violist and assistant with the Orchestre de Chambre de Lyon, refining her chamber music skills. Additional engagements include performances with the Orchestre Victor Hugo in Besançon and Montréal’s Orchestre l’Agora.

In 2022, Axelle broadened her artistic scope as a chamber musician for JUNZI ARTS PRODUCTION in Paris, touring with the renowned pop artist WOODKID. This opportunity allowed her to blend classical influences with contemporary music, demonstrating her versatility and expanding her creative horizons.

As a chamber musician, Axelle has performed with the Orchestre de Chambre de Lyon, specializing in Romantic repertoire such as piano duets and quartets. Her sensitive interpretations of complex works have earned praise from audiences and peers alike.

Currently, Axelle is devoted to her doctoral studies, focusing on musical interpretation and innovation. Her journey exemplifies her talent, versatility, and dedication to contributing to the contemporary music landscape.
