Deconstruction is an essential part of moving the building industry to a circular economy.

Moving from "take, make, waste" to an economy that reuses materials and keep them in the system is essential as we move towards a more sustainable future.

Keeping these valuable materials in circulation creates value, new products and more jobs in transport, storage, sorting, refurbishing, upcycling, resale and recycling.

Have you had a house torn down in your neighborhood? I'm sure you remember the noise, the dust and the destruction.

Demolition causes distress to local people and wildlife. Deconstruction by hand is a much gentler process that saves the history, character and value of the materials of a home.

This is the future we need for happy, healthy communities as well as for our environment.

The Rebuild Hub was gratefully asked to attend the District of North Vancouver's Climate Action Advisory Committee meeting this week.

It was great to hear about the zero waste initiatives they have already launched and to speak to them about deconstruction and the Rebuild Hub as they plan to reduce the amount of construction and demolition waste generated in the district.

Some forward thinking ideas and discussion was had to tackle this hugely important issues and we are excited to see how their plans progress over the coming weeks and months.
