Courthouse Libraries BC
Hello everyone,
This is our last post while we take a pause to consider our future on Facebook. We hope instead that you will visit us on LinkedIn, where we share legal resources and news about Courthouse Libraries BC (linkedin.com/company/theclbc).
For trustworthy information on legal topics, please visit our Clicklaw website (clicklaw.bc.ca). And to find out more about who we are, what we do, and a whole lot more, visit the CLBC website (courthouselibrary.ca).
We appreciate your visits to this page, thank you!
Planning to visit the Vancouver Courthouse Library July 16th? If so, we could really use your help. We just need 30 to 45 minutes of your time. And to thank you, we’re giving volunteers a gift card.
Courthouse Libraries BC wants to improve people’s experience when they use its public access computers and needs volunteers to test the new homepage design. The computers, located in courthouses throughout BC, provide our clients with free access to legal resources.
If you can help us out on July 16th, please get in touch by email at [email protected].
We'd love to get your feedback!

Wednesday March 19th, 12.30pm to 2pm join Courthouse Libraries BC and the Criminal Defense Advocacy Society: Assessing and Treating Men Who Access Child Sexual Exploitation Material (Child Po*******hy) with Dr. Lyne Piché and Dr. Anton Schweighofer.
The criminal justice system and mental health practitioners have been faced with increasing numbers of individuals who access online images involving the sexual exploitation of children (Child Sexual Exploitation Material/Child po*******hy). This presentation will examine some of the common characteristics of those who access child sexual exploitation material, risk factors unique to these offenders, recidivism rates, appropriate and inappropriate risk measures and responsivity factors such as denial and neurodiversity. Some of the treatment needs that we will discuss include: healthy Internet use, sexual preoccupation, sexual functioning/sexual competence, sexual attraction to children, and relationship building abilities. We look forward to exploring this digital population in more detail and discussing their particular needs within the criminal justice system.
Participants may claim up to 1.5 hours of CPD with LSBC.
Criminal Scholars Series is a co-production of the Criminal Defense Advocacy Society and Courthouse Libraries BC.

Join us next Tuesday, March 11th at 12.30pm, with Community Legal Assistance Society’s Stand Informed Legal Advice Services presenting: Sexual assault Complainants on Varying or Revoking Publication Bans in Criminal Trials with panelists Janet Dickie, Crown Counsel, BC Prosecution Service, Chantal Paquette, Vancouver BC, and Morrell Andrews
Until October 2023, sexual assault complainants who wanted to tell their story were often silenced by publication bans under Criminal Code section 486.4, many of whom were never informed about when criminal proceedings commenced. Recently enacted Criminal Code section 486.51 now provides sexual assault complainants the opportunity to change or revoke publication ban orders on their own identities. Join us for an interactive panel discussion with Janet Dickie, Crown Counsel, Chantal Paquette, Independent Legal Counsel for sexual assault complainants, and Morrell Andrews, co-founder of now inactive My Voice, My Choice and staunch advocate for amending Criminal Code sections 486.4 and 486.5. Janet Dickie, Chantal Paquette, and Morrell Andrews will provide their respective perspectives on revoking or varying publication bans, discuss the application process and offer practical information for lawyers providing independent legal advice to sexual assault complainants navigating section 486.51 applications.
Presented in partnership with Courthouse Libraries BC and Community Legal Assistance Society’s Stand Informed Legal Advice Services. Participants in this presentation may claim up to 1.5 hours of CPD credit with LSBC.
