The U.S. Logistics Managers’ Index recorded a transportation pricing reading of 96 out of 100 for May, the fastest growth rate in the index’s 10-year history. The report was direct in its assessment: “This is the hottest that the transportation market has been in over four years.”
Capacity continued to contract, tender rejections are at multi-year highs, and spot rates are climbing, driven by the fuel shock from the Strait of Hormuz and the ongoing removal of non-compliant drivers following the FMCSA’s enforcement actions.

A private member’s bill mandating dashboard cameras on all commercial vehicles travelling on B.C. highways passed unanimously through the provincial legislature this week. The BC Trucking Association endorsed the bill and noted that approximately 75% of collisions involving a commercial vehicle aren’t the fault of the driver, making outward-facing dash cameras a meaningful protection for carriers as much as a safety measure.
However, the BCTA also highlighted that this mandate must be applied on a national level, as a province-by-province approach risks creating “another patchwork of regulations for carriers operating across Canada”.

Since 2020, combined parts and labour costs for heavy-duty trucks have risen by 27.4%. In the U.S., the 25% tariff on imported Class 8 trucks and parts – which took effect in November 2025 – adds up to $35,000 to the delivered cost of a new truck.
The window between now and a full freight market recovery is the time to address equipment condition proactively. When utilization goes back up and trucks are running harder, deferred maintenance becomes emergency maintenance, and at current prices and shop wait times.
For business owners in the trucking sector, fleet condition, maintenance discipline, and parts sourcing strategy are increasingly the variables that separate healthy operations from distressed ones, and acquirers are paying close attention to all three.
