We are so excited for the return of The Assembly! Join us as we kick off the run with a public performance at our studio at Weston Common this Friday afternoon ahead of the start of The Assembly’s school tour next week. 💫
Every performance of the Assembly relies on the outcome of the last, so come be part of this unique theatre-meets-board-game experience this Friday at 4:30PM and shape the game that Toronto students will receive next week!
In the meantime, we thought we’d take a moment to introduce The Assembly’s creator-performers, Breanne Tice and Deivan Steele! ✨
Breanne Tice (she/her) is an actor, writer, producer, and educator. Her work in theatre has taken her to companies across Ontario. As a community arts educator, she has worked with numerous non-profits to develop cutting-edge original programming for children, families, and young adults. Aside from her work with other companies, Breanne acts as executive producer of Colouring Book Theatre, overseeing its projects in development for young audiences.
Deivan Steele (he/him) is an award-winning South African Canadian actor, writer, director, and educator. His work on musicals, new plays in development, Shakespeare, and interactive theatre has taken him across Canada and abroad. For three years, he was Outreach Coordinator at Driftwood Theatre, where he created and facilitated youth theatre workshops across Ontario, reaching over 16,000 students. In 2021, he co-founded Colouring Book Theatre to create imaginative new work for young people.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls follows the story of 9-year-old Fiona who comes out as a boy and wants to be called Fin. Fin has always had this feeling – knowing something is different but not knowing what it was or how to say it. As Fin cuts his hair short and changes his name, his family works to understand and adjust to Fin’s gender identity. Dad is accepting of the change right away, but Mom doesn’t quite get it at first. Always from a place of good intentions, we see Fin’s family struggle with this change and through the course of the play ultimately begin to accept and embrace Fin for who he is.
