Anxiety and depression: A 2025 US study found 64% of construction workers reported experiencing anxiety or depression in the last year, a significant increase from 54% the previous year.

Su***de rates: The construction industry has one of the highest su***de rates, with rates as high as 53.2 per 100,000 workers, which is approximately four times the national average.

Stigma: Many workers feel ashamed to discuss mental health issues, with one study showing 45% felt ashamed, and 37% reported workplace discrimination for discussing mental health.

Substance use: To cope with stress, 26% of construction workers regularly use alcohol or drugs, and those who do are 157% more likely to report poor mental health.

Employer support: A majority of workers, 64%, wished their employers did more to support mental health initiatives, highlighting a gap between worker needs and current employer action.
