North Meets South Exchange Program 2018
🌈🌈🌈
In partnership with , we brought 20 Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth together for 2 weeks of experiential learning. We started learning on Manitoulin Island’s Sheguiandah First Nation and officially wrapped yesterday in the urban centre of Toronto.
〰️
Youth participants (age 13-24) were tasked with developing public policy frameworks in the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation. After buckling down and working together over the last 2 weeks, they pitched their ✨outstanding✨ recommendations on mental health and addictions initiatives, updating public school curricula with Indigenous teachings, sustainable food security and youth su***de prevention to provincial government officials and corporate leaders in the elegant Grand Banking Hall at One King West Hotel on July 13th🔥🔥🔥 (no big deal)
〰️
Our program goals were:
1) to ensure that participants leave the program having made new connections based on mutual understanding and respect; and
2) participants become Truth and Reconciliation advocates and agents of change, bringing learnings along with them throughout their lives.
〰️
We are incredibly proud of all of our participants for making their voices HEARD⚡️
