On a chance hang in grade 9, Fennell noticed my backpack with HUM painted in whiteout. “You like HUM too!!?” was all it took. And although later on our bands Wheels on the Bus and The Binary Link would become bitter rivals, the fact that his band became far more popular allowed Steve to continue being cool with me. B-Link would play countless shows with Bobo’s band Mr. Sleez in our early 20’s, but we never discussed HuM once. Skip to our 40’s and I asked if they wanted to make a cover band. Fennell was like “F**k yea!” And Bobo was like “Who’s HUM?”. Then the pandemic happened. Then I asked them again and we played this show.
