Many Ontarian children and youth live in remote and underserved communities. Eighteen percent of Ontarians live in rural areas, where only 2% of the province’s child psychiatrists live. ECHO Ontario CYMH aims to change diagnostic, prescribing, treatment and referral practices of Primary Care Providers (P*Ps) who are caring for children and youth with mental health problems. We are going to accomplish this by:
-Improving P*P capacity to safely and effectively treat mental health problems.
-Reduce the need for specialist intervention.
-Faster access in which patients can get care.
-Creating local experts in CYMH.
-Reduce disparities in the quality of care for rural, remote, and underserved areas by providing culturally-competent care in a local environment.
-Collaborate with P*Ps to develop new models of care delivery to underserved areas.
-Build a virtual Community of Practice for P*Ps that provide peer support and a consultation network.
Our Vision: One standard of mental health care for every child and youth, no matter where they live.
Our Mission: Deliver specialty level mental health care to children and youth in every corner of Ontario by moving knowledge, not people.
Our Motto: “We All Teach. We All Learn. Every Week.”
