How to Get Oil Stains Out of Your Couch
Oil stains on your couch can be a hassle, whether from cooking oil, massage oil, or other greasy stuff. Don’t worry
- here’s how to tackle those stubborn stains and keep your couch looking fresh.
Act fast!
Start dealing with the oil stain as soon as possible. Oil soaks into fabric quickly, making it harder to remove. Grab a paper towel or a clean cloth and blot the stain to soak up as much oil as you can. Don’t rub — that’ll just push the oil deeper.
Use an absorbent powder
Sprinkle a good amount of baking soda, cornstarch, or talcum powder on the stain. These powders do a great job of soaking up the oil. Leave it on for at least 15 minutes, then vacuum up the powder.
Apply a cleaning solution
Mix a few drops of dish soap (with degreasing power) with warm water. Dip a clean cloth into the solution and gently blot the stain, working from the outside in to avoid spreading. Keep blotting until the stain fades.
Rinse and repeat
Grab another cloth, soak it in clean water, and blot the treated area to rinse off the soap. You might have to repeat this a few times to fully get rid of the oil. Patience is key!
For stubborn stains, use a professional cleaner If the stain is still there, it might be time to bring out the big guns. Look for a solvent-based cleaner designed for oil stains on upholstery. Follow the instructions and test on a hidden spot first.
Mind the fabric type
Some fabrics, like silk or velvet, need extra care. If you’re unsure, call in the pros right away to avoid damage.Call in the pros
If nothing’s working, or if you’ve got a delicate fabric, consider calling in professionals. They’ve got the tools and solutions to tackle tough stains without damaging your couch.
Post-cleaning care
After the stain’s gone, keep your couch in good shape with regular vacuuming, protective covers, and cushions to prevent new stains.
Final tip: Use a fabric protector spray to create a barrier, making it easier to clean up spills before they set in.

Taking Care of Your Synthetic Rugs, Eh?

If you’ve got a synthetic rug at home, consider yourself lucky, bud. Unlike natural materials, these plastics are tough as nails, standing up well to all sorts of wear and tear, plus they’re pretty easy to clean. This is especially true for the high-quality rugs dyed with permanent colours.

So, how do you keep your synthetic rug looking spiffy?

First off, avoid letting it get super dirty. Make sure to vacuum it at least once a week, and if you notice any dirt, grab a damp brush and some cleaner to tackle it right away. To stop your rug from getting all static-y, it’s a good idea to give it a spritz with some anti-static spray before you start cleaning. This will help lift the dirt, keep the surface soft and shiny, and prevent that annoying static cling.

Next, give it a good deep clean at least twice a year. Roll it up, shake out the dust, clean it with a damp brush, and then wipe it down with a cloth soaked in cold water. Let it dry out completely (but don’t leave it baking in the sun!), and then you can bring it back inside.

Lastly, if you’ve got a big, nasty stain on your rug, don’t even think about handling it on your own. Best case, you’ll end up with some ugly blotches; worst case, you’ll have to toss the whole thing. Getting a synthetic rug professionally cleaned is way cheaper than shelling out for a new one every time it gets stained.
