It’s been a few weeks since the World Series excitement abruptly ended. To be honest, I’ve been nervous to post anything since my Blue Jays lettering piece went semi-viral. I was worried to bring attention back to my account, now that it has finally quieted. I went from existing in my own little corner of the internet with maybe a few hundred likes at most, to nearing 1 million views across platforms. The emotional connection people felt with my piece was romantic, to say the least. That is the effect the Jays had on fans. A desperation to be a part of it, and I was drowning in requests for merch and battling copyright infringements still to this day. Licensing takes time. And blaming me (or any artist/designer) for not plastering a watermark across my work has been soul crushing. I have over 600 lettering posts, and never have I had to put my name or a watermark on it, because the small community that supported me always credited if shared. For some reason, people felt that my Blue Jays piece was theirs for the taking because “they found it online”. I have been a designer for over 25 years and a professor for 6 years, teaching my own students copyright and trademark restrictions on day 1. So for those of you patiently waiting for me to announce merch, I appreciate you. I will update as soon as I have all of the proper (legal) channels in place. What could be more romantic than that?

Clement: “I think this is a quote from Herb Brooks, but we are a team of uncommon men… I think a normal team would’ve folded today, and we’re not normal. I think we’re the best team in baseball, and we got out of bed today with our hair on fire and ready to play.” It takes every one of those players to make up the team we have been dreaming of for 32 years… can’t wait to see what they bring Game 6!

Very excited to have been published in the 10th edition of Typism! It’s always fun to see your work in print, and it means a bit more since this is ’s final edition. Printed in Australia, it includes work from letterers all over the world. Adding this one to the book shelf feels pretty good!
