This is the Macintosh SE, first introduced in March 1987. The SE (short for System Expansion) featured an 8 MHz Motorola 68000 CPU, 1 MB RAM and was the first “Compact Macintosh“ with an expansion slot and an internal drive bay for a hard disk. This particular model did indeed come with an internal 20MB SCSI drive, but the increased storage did not come cheaply as this originally retailed for $3,900 USD, equivalent to over $10,000 in 2023. Ouch!

Here we have a TC-560 reel-to-reel tape recorder, first introduced in 1968 with a retail price of $399.50 USD (roughly $3,500 today). Not only was this a 4-track, 3-speed auto reverse tape recorder, it was also designed to be used as a stereo system with a built-in pre-amp control panel and 20-watt RMS power amplifier. All we need now are some tape reels and we can party like it’s 1968!

Another first for us, an oscilloscope brought in for , a Heathkit Model IO-4540 oscilloscope from 1975. The company initially produced DIY aircraft kits but after WW2 they transitioned to electronic kits, allowing electronics enthusiasts to build their own radios, TVs, PCs, and apparently oscilloscopes as well. Heathkit closed their doors in the early 1990s but are still fondly remembered for their kits and for educating and inspiring generations of engineers and innovators.
