I like to create Art that moves the viewer in some way. Art has always been something that causes change. It transcends an unconscious knowledge that has always been within me but could never connect with until viewing or reading an art piece. So when I am creating any form of art; it is imperative that I leave a story behind. My goal is to have the viewer/ readers walk away with their own connections. When starting with any artwork, my mind is a blank canvas. I have no clue what my story will be or how it will look; Art has always been a form for expressing my inner thoughts and emotions. However, as of late I am finding that my art is becoming more focused towards human rights and advocacy. The telling of ones story is something I have become adamant to create and share. My art usually takes the form of abstract either in words, painting and drawing, these forms are then encapsulated into a textile/ clothing design. When choosing my materials I draw on what is in front of me, and if it is accessible. It has always been what I am instinctively drawn towards. Before the age of ten I started out experimenting with a white paint base adding food coloring and spices for color. I didn’t grow up with the resources typically used for art making so as a child with no means I had to get creative in my art expression. Today I use pens, pencils, acrylic paints, fabric etc… But I have not lost my need to use unconventional materials, and I have now started to incorporate hand me downs, vintages and recycled materials in my art practice. In the past I rarely challenged myself with the technical skills, it has only been in the last few years that I have taken any measures in stepping past my fears and practicing new skills sets. Today I am constantly challenging myself to try new mediums, satisfying my curiosity with asking questions and showing my vulnerable side. I am now also trying to expand my skills daily so that I would have a more concrete means of telling my story and knowing that when it is shared there is a stronger understanding in what I am trying to convey.

Sometimes your heart skips a beat for long enough you think it stops. But really the long pause is a stretch that stops it from breaking.
It’s hard but I’ve learned taking a deep breathe helps. It won’t stop the pain but it helps ease the suffering.
