North leads CJ, claiming standard lead. Dummy got a 5card spade suit and can potentially discard two diamonds from my hand. If I take the club finesse trick one and it loses, diamond shift is automatic. As a spade trick has to be ducked when setting up the spade suit, we need to retain the diamond ace control before spade is developed. It works when spade break 4-2 with spade K onside or break 33. Also, two quick entry to dummy are needed, which are obviously the trumps. The last trump in dummy is need for ruffing the third club. So, we can only draw trump once. The plan is ready, the rest is easy. I called for CA trick 1. Draw a trump retaining in table. Small spade from dummy, which South played the K. I won the diamond return with Ace. SQ, trump to table, ruff a spade high. Trump to table, Spades discard both of my diamond. Lose a club and cross-ruff. 4H+1

By the bidding, West had all the point obviously. This is a matchpoint game, you want as many tricks as you can. The diamond Q lead solve the first problem for you. You unblock CK. Played HK. How you discard when you play CA? You know after you play all your diamond. W will have to keep one spade honor and Kx in heart. You can throw him in with spade and he will have to play a heart for you to finesee. So you have to keep the spade and discard a h on your ck.

In a MP match, you are in 4H. When West leaded CA, you saw a shapeful dummy. How should the board be played?

W leaded CK then CK. What would be the best play?

According to the bidding, East's hand is almost certainly 4-3-3-3. The lead of C3 goes to CK and CA. The first thought is to discard the heart loser by playing CT immediately. Is it the best play? Certainly not. Even counting the 2nd Club trick.,We still need one more trick for the contract. If CT was played first, defenders could play trump three times before you can ruff a diamond. As a result, playing diamond first is a better choice. East won the diamond and returned a Heart. Now, the diamond ruff is the final connection to dummy. CT must be played immediately to set up CT before defender can play diamonds forcing out your diamond ruff in dummy. The remaining is easy.
