Fronted by vocal powerhouse Malorie Jo Blake, Propter Hawk is a five-piece Toronto rock group whose cinematic, road-worn music is as fitting for packed dance floors as it is for the closing moments of a long night. Their 2023 self-titled LP introduced fans to a refined analog sound, using vintage gear and a live horn section to deliver an authenticity that has been long forgotten. Now back in their rehearsal studio—known affectionately as the “Loveshack”—Propter Hawk are heading into their next chapter. With new material on the horizon and a growing reputation, the band stands poised for a future that honours rock and roll’s past while pushing it boldly forward.

Hear a raw and stripped back take on Propter Hawk’s songs at the Burdock Music Hall tomorrow, January 21, for Piano Fest presented by and . Tickets on sale now at the link in bio.

TAYLOR JANZEN / AUGUST 20

Taylor Janzen is an indie rock singer/songwriter based in Winnipeg, MB — like a dog that snaps at the hand that feeds before curling up at its owners feet, Janzen’s writing is dangerously sharp but intensely comforting, too, Pairing introspective lyrics that probe subjects such as love, family, and religion with a pop-punk voice that packs a punch, Janzen sets herself from her contemporaries by appealing to listeners from across the genre spectrum without sacrificing any of the personality or individuality that has so clearly shaped her art. Her new single, “Lost Dog,” is an anthemic tribute to both forgiveness and revenge, as Janzen rails against her own ambition and devotion with a bitter, screaming pain that bleeds through the pop-punk production. This is an artist not afraid to be known by everyone who listens — and, as a result, loved by those same people.

Catch Taylor at the Burdock Music Hall this Wednesday, August 20. Tickets available in advance or on the door!
