🚨 Attention Community Pharmacy Teams!
đź’‰ Are you dispensing newer injectable antidiabetic medication? A report received by the NIDR described an incident where a patient administered a higher dose than intended of their newly prescribed once weekly injectable antidiabetic medication.
❗Some injection devices can administer a variety of doses, reinforcing the importance of confirming the patient’s dose PRIOR to administering an injection.
To help prevent similar incidents:
âś… Confirm the product name, dose/volume, and indication for the medication being administered. Verify the medication label on the product package to the patient/caregiver prior to injection.
âś… If the patient will be administering the injection at home, use the teach-back method to verify that the patient/caregiver understands the directions for use.

Resident-centred care means seeing each person as a unique individual with their own values, beliefs, and ways of moving through the day. It's about making sure they feel heard, respected, and in control.
