The microbiome is made up of trillions of microbes that communicate with our digestive system and our immune system.
The state of our gut microbiome powerfully influences our overall health, but there is little to no discussion in mainstream medicine or media on how to support this remarkable feature that makes up such a large part of us.
Sooo how do we support this eco system of microflora that makes up our microbiome which can make us feel really great or really awful, depending on how we take care of it?
Well….we feed it. And we feed it well.
We feed it with live PROBIOTIC foods like yogurt, kefir, kimchi, sauerkraut, kombucha or PREBIOTIC foods (special fibre that helps healthy gut bacteria to grow) found in onions, garlic, leeks, asparagus, chicory root (think Dandy Blend coffee alternative), mushrooms, Jerusalem Artichokes (or “Fartichokes” as my kids call them around here), dandelion greens and whole grains.
