Removing Dirt and Dust from Under PPF

Dust and dirt are probably one of the biggest enemies of any PPF installer.

Sometimes you can’t see them right away. Sometimes you miss just one small preparation step — and the whole installation can be ruined because dust or debris becomes visible under the film.

This is especially critical on black cars, where every tiny particle under the PPF can stand out. In many cases, because of one small mistake or lack of attention, the entire panel has to be reinstalled.

To avoid this, we always recommend proper vehicle preparation before installation:

A proper wash, preferably a two-step wash.
Blowing out all gaps and edges.
Disassembling certain parts when needed.
Using a clay bar.
Wiping and cleaning the surface properly before applying the film.

But even with good preparation, dust can still appear. It can come from the air, from a gap, from an edge, or from a hidden area between panels.

That’s why it is extremely important during installation to wipe the film from the top after you squeegee the water out. This helps you check the surface and make sure there is nothing trapped underneath before moving to the next step.

If you notice dust or debris while the film is still fresh, you can carefully lift the film, flush it out, and fix the issue. But if you miss it and continue the installation, it may be too late — and you may have to redo the whole panel.

Always check the film from different angles. Take your time. Make sure there is no contamination under the PPF before moving forward.

This simple habit can save you a lot of time, material, and money.
