Proud Duo Moment!

Beyond proud to share that the other half of Obsidiana Duo, the incredible Camila Montefusco, Mezzo-soprano, will be performing at the Four Seasons Centre tonight, Oct 23, as part of the Centre Stage Gala of the Canadian Opera Company. 🎶✨

This event is one of the most special celebrations of opera in Canada — and seeing my dear friend and duo partner shine on that stage fills me with so much joy. 💛

I’ve seen the hard work, the joy, the struggles, and everything in between that make her the wonderful artist she is today. I couldn’t be happier for her… and yes, I’ll happily embarrass her a little with this post 😉💫

✨ We have two very special stops this Fall! ✨

🎶 First, the University Club of Toronto (tickets available on our website—scroll to About the event)

💜 Next, we’re beyond honoured to return to our alma mater, Western University, for their Fridays @ 12:30pm series! After the concert, we’ll also be giving a masterclass — so special to give back to the Western community and its amazing young musicians.

🎟 Western’s performance is open to the public (link on our website!) and will also be livestreamed via the Don Wright Faculty of Music site — so you can join us from anywhere.

We can’t wait to see familiar faces, meet new ones, and share beautiful music together. In times like these, we feel called to share Latin American art song with the world — honouring our ancestors, remembering that to look toward the future, we must learn from the past. We hope this program resonates and brings us all a little closer together. 💫

We had an incredible time recording our upcoming album AIRE at The Royal Conservatory in collaboration with the amazing Pouya Hamidi. 🌟 Pouya has been such a vital part of this journey — not only an outstanding engineer and composer, but also a truly kind-hearted soul, and that means the world to us.

This project began almost two years ago with a commissioned work that brought us together with Alice Ho and Madeline Thien — an experience that shaped and inspired us in ways we couldn’t have imagined. Since then, creating AIRE has been both deeply rewarding and an ongoing adventure in learning and growth.

Up next, Camila Montefusco, Mezzo-soprano is already in Haliburton with Highland Opera Studio and Yolanda Tapia is preparing to head to Buenos Aires with Orquesta Solidaridad Tango. We’re beyond grateful for the chance to reunite our friendship and musicianship once more — making music that’s deeply personal to us and sharing our immigrant stories for the very first time. 💛

Our heartfelt thanks to the Ontario Arts Council - Conseil des arts de l'Ontario for their generous support, which made this project possible.

We’re so excited to share that our Educational Booklet Amazon Folk Tales is now available on our website! 🌿✨

This booklet is not just a collection of music and stories. It’s a reflection of our belief in the power of storytelling, music, and art to connect us, spark reflection, and build community.

Its creation was made possible with the generous support of Canada Council for the Arts | Conseil des arts du Canada, and it’s inspired by our ongoing work with incredible organizations that recognize the importance of music education.

From our residency with the Fort McMurray Teachers Association and Prairie Debut, to our tours with Debut Atlantic tour, and our time with the Community Music Schools of Toronto last summer, every experience with young audiences has deepened our commitment to sharing culture, folklore, and the beauty of the natural world.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to keep growing and learning through these collaborations, and to now offer this booklet as a way to keep the conversation going 💚

📸 Swipe to see some beautiful moments from our past residency in Fort McMurray!

Connecting with young artists through music and storytelling is at the heart of what we do, so this Prairie Debut residency couldn’t have come at a better time. From February 14-16 we’ll lead several masterclasses and workshops for piano, voice, and violin students in Fort McMurray (AB). Then on Sunday we’ll perform a final concert, which will be such a beautiful opportunity to end the week with their community.

We can’t wait to meet these budding musicians, share what we love, and learn from them too. Huge thanks to Prairie Debut for having us — see you soon!

✨ Exciting Announcement! ✨

We are honoured to share that our duo has been awarded a grant from the Ontario Arts Council for our upcoming recording of 'Aire'! 🪽🦋

We’ve been pouring our hearts into this for some time, and it's an honor to spotlight exceptional works by composers we so admire, including Alice Ho, Jeff Smallman, Ian Cusson and our very own pianist Yolanda Tapia.

A major THANK YOU to the Ontario Arts Council for supporting our vision and helping us share this music with all of you. 'Aire' is a labour of love, and we can’t wait to take you along with us. Stay tuned for updates soon!

abrazo! 💃🏻

We’re halfway through our tour, and sharing Aire y Tierra with audiences across the Atlantic has already been an incredible experience. 💖

Witnessing the audience’s responses has been so moving—there’s something profound about connecting with people we’ve never met through our narrative, our story, and our music. This journey has shown us how music can foster connections that transcend language or a familiarity with classical music, reminding us of art’s power to bring us closer, no matter where we come from.

✨We’re excited to keep going and can’t wait to perform in Truro tonight! ✌🏽

Did you know that since we started our duo, we've only lived in the same city for one full year? Until last year, we were separated by 200km, and yet we achieved so much! Now we're about to be 500km apart 💔... but hey, nothing we haven't handled before — we love a challenge! 😎

So if you're in Toronto, this is your last chance to catch us live this summer before we go on tour! We're super excited to perform at Music Mondays Toronto on July 22 and hope to see some new and familiar faces in the audience. This is a pay-what-you-can event and all are welcome! 🎶

Yesterday we had the honor of presenting the Toronto premiere of 'Circular Sky,' an extraordinary piece composed by Alice Ping Yee Ho - Canadian Composer & Pianist in collaboration with writer Madeleine Thien. This performance became even more special with the presence of the composer herself in the audience. Working closely with such deeply involved creators was truly a dream come true for our duo.

Their creation added a new dimension to our program, leading us to choose 'Circular Sky' as the opening piece to set the tone for AIRE. In Alice's words, “Writer Madeleine Thien has created a beautiful and fascinating poem which inspired me to imagine a musical journey about the epic migration of an arctic tern - its heroic and perpetual flight year after year against environmental challenges is a sign of strength and endurance.”

We extend our deepest gratitude to Alice and Maddie for their invaluable collaboration. Special thanks to SOCAN Music and Po Yeh from Prairie Debut for their ongoing support, which made this project possible. And a big shout-out to Music Toronto for providing us with the opportunity to share this exceptional song with Toronto audiences. We look forward to bringing this beautiful piece to many more audiences across Canada soon!
