Mission Research
This past weekend, on International Trails Day, communities across Canada came together to celebrate the many ways trails contribute to our health, wellbeing, and quality of life.
At Mission Research, we are proud to be leading a study examining the impact of the Trans Canada Trail on the health and wellbeing of Canadians. Our work focuses on understanding how trail use contributes to physical activity, mental wellbeing, social connection, and healthier communities.
What made this year's celebration especially meaningful for me was experiencing those benefits firsthand. My son performed as lead guitarist with his band, Windfall, during the Trail Tunes celebration in Wasaga Beach. It was wonderful to see residents and visitors gathered along the trail to enjoy live music, connect with one another, and celebrate one of Canada's greatest public assets.
As researchers, we often measure outcomes through data and statistics. Yesterday was a reminder that behind every data point are real people and communities coming together through shared experiences. Trails are much more than places to walk, run, or cycle - they are spaces that support health, recreation, culture, and community connection.
