Welcome to MindShareTV, where we connect with education thought leaders shaping the future of learning in Canada and around the world.

Today, we’re exploring one of the most important conversations in education: artificial intelligence in schools, beyond the hype, beyond the fear, and into the hope, possibility, and practical leadership required for meaningful change.

Our featured book is AI Unplugged: The Hype and Hope in Education Futures, published by Routledge. The book examines how generative AI is impacting curriculum, instruction, assessment, teacher professionalism, academic integrity, equity, privacy,
and the future of school leadership.

Our guest today is Dr. Stephen Murgatroyd, an education futurist, author, advisor, and thought leader whose work focuses on innovation, public policy, leadership, and the future of learning.

Dr. Murgatroyd, welcome to MindShareTV.

🌟 24 Days to Go! 🌟

While AI is moving fast, we in education must move slow to move fast. As Stephen Covey said, “Innovation moves at the speed of trust.”

After 35+ years in post-secondary administration and EdTech, I’ve experienced it all — my first computer, the rise of the internet, the dot-com bubble, and now AI. Each wave brought disruption and opportunity. But this one feels different. The stakes are higher. Our focus must stay on learning, on students, and on the evolving teacher–professor relationship that enables them to thrive.

I’ll recall joining my twins high school hockey team years ago touring the Pittsburgh Penguins’ workout room — emblazoned on the wall was a slogan that’s stayed with me:

“You’re either in or you’re in the way.”

That’s how I feel about education right now. We have no option but to embrace the future with AI, keeping learning at the core; embracing the growth & innovator's mindset.

As chair of The 16th Canadian International EdTech AI Summit, it is not just another event — it’s a seminal gathering in modern education, bringing together voices from across the entire learning ecosystem. Because it truly takes a village to transform education.
