Some of the main influences in my paintings express certain elements and spiritual symbols which often express my impressions of colours and themes painted by renown artists, such as Norval Morrisseau, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, David Hockney, Emily Carr, Lawren Harris, Tom Thomson, Salvador Dali, Franscisco Goya, and Amedeo Modigliani. Something new has been quietly taking shape in the studio

I started pottery classes not knowing what would come of it — just curious. But somewhere between underglaze and kiln fire, these pieces began to feel like small, functional extensions of my paintings.

What a great opening night for Painting the West

This painting is still available,
1000 meters high, 12x12” acrylic painting on gallery canvas

This painting captures a beautiful arbutus tree at the top of a hike I spotted on Mount Douglas. The arbutus 🌿 Native to the western coastal areas of North America, this wild beauty thrives on rocky, sun-soaked south-facing slopes and is famously difficult to transplant.

Its glowing orange-red bark peels like snakeskin, revealing a smooth satin trunk beneath. An evergreen, it flowers in spring and produces red berries in the fall — a tree that’s always evolving.

With its twisting, sculptural trunk and warm coastal colours, it’s one of my favourite forms to sketch into a landscape. 🌲✨
