Congratulations to Carolina Hurricanes players Jaccob Slavin and Sean Walker on winning the Stanley Cup!

Jaccob Slavin is a Colorado native out of Erie, now becoming the second American player in NHL history to win a gold medal and a Stanley Cup in the same season.
Slavin has been a career Hurricane but spent his developmental career playing for the Colorado Thunderbirds and Colorado College Tigers.

Also want to congratulate former Colorado Avalanche defenseman Sean Walker on his first Stanley Cup Championship!

Obviously not a ton of new information from what was known beforehand, but with the end of the season press conference out of the way there is now a better picture on the organizations mindset moving forward.

- Cale Makar thankfully isn’t hurt badly and is expected to be present at training camp along with the rest of the team. An extension is expected come July 1st and Sakic made it clear that through talks with Makar’s agent the belief is Cale will finish his career in Denver.

- No changes are being made to the coaching staff and Coach Bednar will return for his 10th season in Colorado. Sakic acknowledged the disappointing powerplay from last season but was impressed with the numbers post deadline with the addition of Nazem Kadri. There is belief it will improve next season.

- Amid the discussion of the Ball Arena redevelopment project, Josh Kroenke was asked about a new practice facility for the Avalanche and said they “are very close to getting a facility started” but provided no timeline.
Family Sports Center has been center of complaints from fans and players as an arcade facility that shares ice with many high school and youth programs, damaging the ice easier. Colorado was close to adopting the new South Suburban Sports Complex as their new facility but was shut down as the ice sheets do not meet NHL requirements. Glad to see this is an active discussion.

- With low cap space for the offseason there is some expectation of trades to be made. Looking to keep this roster together interm GM Joe Sakic is not afraid to make moves when needed.

For the first time in franchise history, Avalanche Captain Gabriel Landeskog has been awarded the Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award, given annually to the player who shows great leadership on and off the ice during the regular season, with the winner selected by Mark Messier himself from a list of nominees submitted by fans, clubs, and league personnel.
