Artist Project wasn’t what I expected.

Instead, it was a poignant testament that what truly drives these events are not monetary transactions, or even expressions of creativity, but the reciprocity and generosity of relationships. Last weekend was a touchstone marking the human connections I’ve made at every stage and from every angle (made salient by my 48th birthday!).

It was only made possible because of my immediate, extended and chosen family, friends, peers, teachers, students, those who’ve collected my work throughout the years (including the lovely person who bought the first painting I ever sold!) and the warm faces—new and remembered—who became familiar over the course of the fair.

What these events really are is a
strengthening of the web of connections that all humans cultivate. A giant collective of respect and support that buoys us all. It was a remarkable thing to experience and now to reflect on. Thank you for every smile, every kind word, supportive gesture, helping hand and quiet moment.

It takes a village to move through this wild world and I am truly grateful for every one of you.

I’ve been thinking about this past year and all of the bits you don’t see on social media. Sometimes it takes a shift in perspective to see some of the most meaningful happenings of the day to day.
