You’re looking at the most recently minted officially British citizen 🇬🇧 (with proof, LOL) ‼️

I’ve been in a sense waiting for this moment since I was 13 - when I went to England for the first time and finally felt like I’d found “home” - an ancestral territory where people looked and thought like me; there was an immediate energetic feeling of belonging as soon as I stepped off the plane. ✈️ This was where I was from - that land, those British Isles.

Over the years I’ve been to the UK a bunch, notably a few weeks in Edinburgh during an illustration conference (and some scenes of me visiting Scott ancestors in the graveyard are near the end of my second and most recent graphic novel, Bodymagic), and a whole month in England travelling alone, going to places like London, Brighton, Bath, Devon, and Cornwall, most memorably the Witchcraft Museum in Boscastle. These ancestral territory trips are, I believe, immensely important for all who are witchy and spiritual, if you don’t already live in such a place.

And as I’ve gotten older I’ve also come to realize and feel that I am very distinctly North American - my ambition, my bluntness, my courage to be 100% unique, my refusal to do anything but doggedly go after my dreams. There are some ways I don’t fit in to the UK. But still, it will always be part of me.

I have no plans to move over there but it feels good to know that I’ve finally achieved this birthright of mine, now fully documented and official after more than 5 months of hard fu***ng work of myself and others; digging around to find official documents, birth certificates, marriage certificates, and in my case also somehow sorting out my birth certificate with the Quebec government (in French, lmao). But we got here 🙂‍↕️ 🙏🏼

Very grateful and also very happy I’m one more passport closer to being an international woman of mystery 💃 (move over James Bond!)
