🏛️Earlier this week, WomanACT was honoured to attend the debate on Lydia’s Law at Queen’s Park, invited by MPP Peggy Sattler and MPP Catherine Fife.
⚖️Lydia’s Law would bring much-needed transparency and accountability to how Ontario’s justice system handles sexual assault cases. The legislation would require annual public reporting on progress implementing recommendations from the Auditor General’s 2019 audit of Ontario’s criminal court system, establish an ongoing review mechanism, assess the adequacy of the Victim Quick Response Program, and help ensure survivors are aware of available independent legal advice supports.
Survivors and advocates across Ontario have called for meaningful action for far too long. Lydia’s Law is an opportunity to move beyond acknowledgment and toward systemic change that strengthens survivor safety, accountability, and prevention.
