It took just $15/month over the course of a year to help Deborah in Uganda secure rights to her land.
Deborah was living on land that she had no proof of legal claim. Like many women in the countries where we work, she could have been forced out at any time.
With support from Rooftops Canada and our local partner, her land was surveyed and an application submitted. She was granted a legal certificate proving it’s hers. Now she has security—and an asset a bank will recognize.

Women in Johannesburg’s inner city often face violence, eviction, and discrimination that are overlooked in housing advocacy. The Women’s Desk, established with support from Rooftops Canada’s partner the Socio-Economic Rights Institute of South Africa (SERI), through the Women’s Spaces project, provides a safe, trusted space where women can seek advice, attend workshops on housing and legal rights, and access support services. The Desk is empowering women and helping residents navigate housing challenges with confidence.
