I love Solmate socks as someone who can't wear wool and doesn't have the patience for sock knitting. Their cotton socks are great, and now they're offering bundles for recycling, reuse, etc.

Calling all crafters, quilters, fiber artists, DIYers, and creative reuse lovers ♻️✨

Our colorful sock scraps are ready for their second life.
Each scrap box includes 40 lbs of assorted knit fabric scraps from Solmate Socks production, perfect for quilting, weaving, sewing projects, patchwork, mixed media art, classroom crafts, rag rugs, stuffing, and sustainable DIY projects.

Because keeping textile waste out of landfills and turning scraps into something beautiful? We love that.
If you’ve been looking for fabric scraps for crafting or colorful textile scraps for art projects… this one’s for you.

Check em out at the link in bio.

Ow.

I had Carpal Tunnel surgery on both wrists in 2016. That's 10 years ago. It fixed EVERYTHING. I'd gotten complacent and thought this couldn't happen again. Two days ago, I woke up with a numb right hand.

Stress-releasing Borderlands 4 (endless hours over the last few months) and then crochet last week, and BOOM. And I really didn't feel much of anything like warning signs up till I woke up numb. Just a few twinges that I (of course) ignored. So I'm absolutely freaked. Yes, doc has been called and I'll rest and do whatever is required of me so I can get back to a healthier normal. Drugstore brace stays on till I see the doc and probably afterwards. Dammit.

People, don't ignore the twinges. (I'm so mad at myself.)

From designer Laura Zukaite, Skylark was been dreamed up out of necessity: a need for a versatile, tie-front cardigan that is light and can be worn over a dress. Using an open mesh stitch makes this cardigan super light, which is perfect for just throwing it on on a cool summer evening.

We'd love it if you'd share this free pattern (all patterns in Knitty are free!) with your knitting, spinning, and crochet friends. Word of mouth is how Knitty grows!

I want to encourage you not to. Our yarny businesses thrive on handmade, and AI is the opposite of that. Will your customers see yet *another* AI-generated poster and just ignore it, finding nothing in it that tells them who YOU and your business are? Or will they choose another business who centers their message around handmade and makes their own images, even if they’re not as slick? Maybe *because* they’re not as slick. Maybe they won’t care. But we should care.

There is lots of information on the web about why AI is bad for people (job loss, stolen intellectual property), our dwindling water supply and the health of this planet. Maybe think about that too.

Canva is something I’ve used with the AI features turned off. It’s free. (Yes, AI likely was involved somewhere in their back end, hidden in the methods Canva uses to create their base images, but you can choose their existing templates and customize them without using additional AI.) You can do this yourself, I promise.

Choose handmade in everything you can, including the tools you use to share your work. 💕 Avoiding intentional AI use is a good thing.

*image stolen from a non-yarny account because I don’t want to diss anyone. Just the concept. And yeah this was written because I keep seeing AI-generated posters used by some yarnfolk and I’m hoping I could maybe help them not to in future.

PS I added the type with an app called Typorama. Doesn’t use AI.
