Ontario’s art history deserves to be seen, shared and better understood.
TVO is developing a new series that brings overlooked stories from across the province to the screen, including those that unfolded far beyond galleries and museums.
The first episode begins with a message painted across a railway bridge nearly 50 years ago. The story of who put it there remained hidden for decades.

"Children of a Lesser God" marked Marlee Matlin’s Hollywood breakthrough.
At 21, she became the first Deaf actor to win an Academy Award, bringing American Sign Language and Deaf identity into the centre of mainstream film.
"Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore" looks back at what came after: the fame, the barriers and the fight to be seen on her own terms.

In 1987, at the age of just 21, Marlee Matlin shattered expectations as the first Deaf actor to win an Academy Award® for her groundbreaking performance in Children of a Lesser God.
Directed by Shoshannah Stern, the film offers an unflinching look at Matlin’s extraordinary life through the lens of her first language, American Sign Language.
Matlin reflects on her personal and professional struggles- her rapid rise to fame, the challenges of working in a predominantly hearing industry, the turmoil of a highly public relationship, her path to sobriety, and years of being sidelined by Hollywood- alongside her many triumphs.
"Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore" premieres on TVO, Saturday, July 11th at 9pm. Stream it digitally on all TVO platforms, tomorrow at 9am.
