“Next year I’ll be in the legal system for 25 years and I’ll be an independent lawyer for 10 years.

At 35 I decided to do things differently. I deliberately chose social advocacy. Not because it was the easiest way, but on the contrary. It’s hard work. Often more hours than compensated. The costs are high and the margins are small.

But what you get in return is not expressed in money.

The relief of a client who still keeps his job.
The moment when a family can stay in their home.

That’s why I do this job.

To me, wealth is not in numbers, but in meaning and justice. That feeling that you can stand next to someone at a time that really matters.

With my participation in the Legal Woman of the Year finals, I hope to show that social advocacy has a future. That it’s heavy, yes. But also incredibly valuable. And that you as a lawyer can make a difference exactly where it is needed the most.

To my students at Erasmus University, I try to pass on that as well. That this subject is more than files and declarations. That’s what it’s about people. And that we need new experienced lawyers who dare to choose impact.

Maybe I can be an example to someone.

But above all, I hope to put social advocacy on the map positively with my participation.”
