What is our PAIN as rehabilitation practitioners?
As rehabilitation specialists, we frequently encounter patients with disabilities. Our PAIN lies in the fact that many of these patients, particularly those with neurological disorders such as stroke, multiple sclerosis (MS), and traumatic brain injury (TBI), do not receive adequate rehabilitation treatment.
The global burden of disability is highlighted by the statistic that there are approximately 11,000 Years Lived with Disability (YLD) per 100,000 people. This means that for every 100,000 individuals, over 11,000 years are spent living with disabilities each year. That’s shocking!
We need to consider this critically. Policymakers must urgently revise outdated approaches to disability and swiftly integrate innovative, cost-effective methods like tele-rehabilitation into the healthcare system.
