Karma was force to stay back while his friends fly back to their summer habitat (Tibetan Plateau).
Black-Necked Cranes ( ཁྲུང་ཁྲུང་ སྐེ་ གནག) visit beautiful valleys of Phobjikha, Khotokha and Bumdeyling in Bhutan during winter. They bring spectacular beauty and harmony into these valleys. Having spent their winter in these valleys they fly back to Tibetan Plateau around March to north in Tibet.
Karma’s left wing was severely injured making him deprived of flying again. Later in March of 2016, medical report by National Centre for Animal Health, Bhutan revealed the bitter truth.
It was believed that if an injured blacked-necked crane is left behind, friends would visit bringing along medicine. In fact, karma is visited by few friends (cranes) after their departure according to the officials from Royal Society for Protection of Nature (RSPN). The juvenile went through hard times like anyone of us (physical and mental) according to RSPN who rescued and built a new home for him.
Today, Karma has not only healed but has become a celebrity, attracting many people, local and foreigners alike. He brings joy and simple amazement with his little dance, moves and gesture. He is a hero and spectacular indeed.
