BEYOND THE SOIL is an exhibit that explores textiles and patterns as modes of communicating our creation stories i.e. the way we come to be based on specific experiences of our lives. Inspired by African diaspora quilting practices & histories, BEYOND THE SOIL combines the tactile applications of quilting with new media by incorporating digital design, 3D printing and augmented reality.
You can add a visit to your list of enriching experiences for by visiting the rotunda of Toronto’s City Hall (100 Queen St W) from February 21-24!
The exhibit uses augmented reality (AR), make sure you download the Artivive App to get the most out of the experience!
A very special thank you to those who helped contribute to the creation of BEYOND THE SOIL: 3D printing on fabric consultant Neekta Torabian, 3D designer and architect Mark Francis, the team at the Toronto Metropolitan University’s Design Fabrication Studio for all of the fabrication assistance and support! Thank you to all of the members of our community for sharing your creation stories with us, and allowing us to be the ones to display your visual messages.
