Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has just announced an update to the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP). IRCC will accept up to 15,000 complete applications for sponsorship under the PGP this year.

On October 10, IRCC will begin sending invitations to apply to 24,200 interested potential sponsors, aiming to receive up to the 15,000 complete applications.

As of now, IRCC has issued 77,748 ITAs for Express Entry in 2023.

Now that it is clear that they do not have an unlimited capacity to issue ITAs and that ITAs are closely tied to the economic programme requirements for PR for 2023–2024, a slowdown in ITA issuance is anticipated.

The Statistics that are to be balanced are:
82880 is the FHS quota for 2023.
PNPs (EE Linked) expected for 2023: 35,000–40,000

2024 FHS quota: 109020
38,000–44,000 PNPs (EE Linked) are anticipated in 2024.

Please note that the number of ITAs and the annual PR quota are not the same.
A PR quota is the total number of applicants who are accepted, while an ITA is an invitation to a profile. ITAs may be accepted or rejected, and a single accepted ITA may signify several applicants for a single application.

Applicants who have been issued work permit on or before June 7, 2023 can study in Canada without a study permit from June 27, 2023 until June 27, 2026.

Canada sanctions the Iranian regime for activities that gravely threaten international peace and security

The federal government placed sanctions on seven Iranians Tuesday in its 13th package of sanctions on the Iranian regime in under a year.

Those sanctioned are involved in activities "that gravely threaten international peace and security or that constitute gross and systemic violations of human rights in Iran," Global Affairs Canada said in a news release.

The sanctioned Iranians are:

1.)Ali Akbar Ahmadian, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council.
2.)Abdolkarim Bani Tarafi, Iranian Army brigadier general and chairman of the Iran Aviation Industry Organization.
3.)Fatemeh Haghshenas, chief executive officer and member of the board of directors of Imen Sanat Zaman Fara.
4.)Masoumeh Teymouri, chief of the board of directors of Imen Sanat Zaman Fara.
5.)Reza Khaki, a primary member of the board of directors of Qods Aviation Industries.
6.)Majid Reza Niyazi-Angili, a primary member of the board of directors of Qods Aviation Industries.
7.)Vali Arlanizadeh, member of the board of directors of Qods Aviation Industries.

These measures will impose a dealings prohibition on the listed individuals, which will effectively freeze any assets they may hold in Canada and render them inadmissible to Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
