Winners of the Wacken Metal Battle Canada competition, Toronto's melodic proggers The Slyde represented Canada at the Wacken Open Air in Germany. A major highlight of the band's career, The Slyde capped their 2019 year with a 10th anniversary tour in Ontario, showcasing bangers from their 2018 album, "Awakening." Described by critics as "a highly impressive, thunderously powerful, thought provokin
g collection of songs," and "vigourous and passionate," the album is the culmination of the band harnessing their brand of deceptively intricate progressive hard rock which they've honed since their 2009 inception. Led by vocalist/guitarist/composer Nate da Silva, The Slyde thrived on quirky arrangements, an aggressive edge bordering on heavy metal, and ominous lyrics, resulting in a high-octane take on prog rock for fans of Rush, Dream Theater, Haken, Coheed and Cambria, and Megadeth. Completing the band is keyboardist Sarah Westbrook, bass player/vocalist Alberto Campuzano, and drummer/vocalist Brendan "Dino" Soares (along with Andrew Suarez as a frequent live drummer). The band performed over 200 shows in Canada and abroad, sharing the stage with such notable acts as Protest The Hero, Angra, Pain of Salvation, and F**k The Facts among others, and have made past appearances at Wacken Open Air (Germany), Ottawa Bluesfest, Canadian Music Week (Toronto), and Indieweek (Toronto). The Slyde will soon be releasing a live album + concert film titled "Live at Rivoli," one of the band's last shows from their 10th anniversary tour.
