Can an RDH start a teeth whitening business in Canada? 👀🦷
Short answer… yes. But there are a few important things you need to understand before jumping in.

This week on the Whitening Wednesday Clinical Reference Series we’re diving into:
✔️ Scope & regulations
✔️ RDH vs non-RDH whitening businesses
✔️ Medical vs cosmetic positioning
✔️ Insurance + liability considerations
✔️ Common myths floating around the whitening industry

This is one of the MOST asked questions we get from dental professionals looking to expand beyond the operatory and build additional income streams 💻✨

Teeth whitening technicians… send this to where it needs to go 🤣

But seriously… managing before & after expectations is a HUGE part of being a successful whitening provider.

Unfortunately, social media has created a world of false whites, altered photos, and misleading “results” (gingival barrier still on in the after photo… yeah, I’m looking at you 👀).

Here are my top 3 ways our team helps create realistic expectations while still delivering amazing results 👇

1. Shade match properly
I know… I used to hate shade matching too 😂 But the R-27 shade guide and digital shade matching methods have been a total game changer. We also involve the client in the process so they physically SEE their starting point before treatment begins.

2. Look at the whites of their eyes + discuss shade goals
This helps determine whether their desired result is realistically achievable in one session or if take-home maintenance / extension whitening may be needed.

3. Have the “false white” conversation
If a client is aiming for an ultra bright white, we openly discuss dehydration whitening, false whites, filters, and how whitening ACTUALLY works long term.

Honest education creates happier clients, better reviews, and more trust 🤍
