Growing up I would often hear people telling other people “Be careful. Your dad has diabetes you might also get it or your Mum has BP you might also get it.” I would think to myself okay, that makes sense, since all the genes are passed down from the parents maybe the diseases are also passed down from the parents.

On the other I had also noticed that some people were completely healthy even though their parents were suffering from many chronic ailments. And that’s where my confusion began. Why is it that some people seem to be bothered by the same disease their parents had but other people had completely healthy and happy lives. This confusion was left in the back of my head until one of modules in covered the topic of Gene Expression. And just like that all my confusion was cleared.

Yes, it is definitely true that we may be more predisposed to certain illnesses because of our genes and it is helpful to be aware of our genetic predispositions. Our genes however are NOT the deciding factor. So what is the determining factor that dictates whether you get a particular disease or not? It’s our LIFESTYLE. It’s

⛷how active we keep the body
😴how much quality sleep we get
💧How well hydrated we are

It’s all these factors that ultimately dictate and determine our health. Now you can rest well thinking that YOUR health is in YOUR hands. You are not doomed by your genes. The power is in your hands. 💪💥
