Former Boxer Musa Abdraim Saves Hostage in Airport Attack
Almaty Airport, Kazakhstan 🇰🇿 — Mar/08/2025
Musa Abdraim, a former professional boxer, fearlessly intervened to assist airport security in subduing a knife-wielding attacker who was threatening a young woman and claiming to have a bomb in his backpack.
The 52-year-old father of five risked his life at Almaty Airport when a 67-year-old man, angered by a security checkpoint request for identification, brandished a knife and took a 21-year-old security guard hostage. The assailant also claimed he could detonate a bomb using his phone.
“The attacker had a knife and a phone. He told the police that he would press a button and everything would explode,” Abdraim recalled.
With security personnel and police watching the tense standoff, Abdraim bravely offered himself in exchange for the hostage. The attacker agreed, but as soon as the swap was made, Abdraim seized the moment, grabbing the knife by the blade and tackling the assailant.
A struggle ensued before security forces stepped in to subdue the man, who was taken into custody. Thanks to Abdraim’s quick thinking and courage, the hostage was freed, and a potential tragedy was averted.
Bronx High-Rise Explosion Causes Partial Collapse, No Injuries Reported
205 Alexander Ave., Bronx, New York 🇺🇸
Oct/01/2025 – 8:10 a.m.
An explosion inside a New York City Housing Authority building shook the Mott Haven neighborhood of the Bronx Wednesday morning, tearing open an entire corner of the 20-story Mitchel Houses high-rise. Videos from the scene show a massive hole in the building and heavy damage along Alexander Avenue.
Remarkably, no injuries were reported.
Mayor Eric Adams joined officials at the site, stating that early reports suggest the blast originated in the boiler room. Investigators believe the incident may have occurred while the heating system was being prepared for the city’s Oct. 1 heat activation.
“Before the pilot was lit, this caused the incident to happen,” explained Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Kaz Daughtry.
Adams confirmed: “We received reports of an incident involving the chimney to the boiler room here at NYCHA’s Mitchel Houses. This resulted in a partial building collapse. We are extremely fortunate that, at this time, we have no loss of life or injuries.”
Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson called it “an all-hands-on-deck moment,” praising first responders and noting, “Although there is a lot of cleanup, I’m so grateful no one lost their life.”
Gov. Kathy Hochul also posted on social media that she had been briefed and was “relieved that no one was injured and grateful to our first responders.”
One witness, who called 911, said she saw smoke rising from the building shortly after dropping her children at school.
